This will be our 4th Urbansketching School in Riga, pure joy of sketching together with like-minded souls from north & south. This time our theme is Night Sketching & Watercolour Storytelling. We wish to turn long nights into joyful sketching experience and we want to sketch in the middle of endless events and happenings of the winter season. That's why we have brought two fascinating sketchers from Portugal to share their night sketching & watercolour storytelling tips.
Three days of workshops, lectures, sketchwalks and some free time to immerse into city, sketching and yourself. Alongside of this we know that it will be an easygoing and heartwarming weekend for all sketching friends.

Meet The Team
Pedro Loureiro
I was born on the southwestern-most tip of Europe, in Lagos, Portugal. A childhood of legos and sand castles led me to architecture school, but an adolescence of doodling drove me to illustration. I work halfway between the two professions, as an architecture illustrator. I like to sketch, to travel and to chop vegetables into tiny manageable bits. I teach sketching workshops regularly and tell my stories in the blog Storysketching and in Urban Sketchers Portugal. I am also a regular writer for Drawing Attention and has a side project with two fellow sketchers called The Wedding Sketchers.
Pedro Alves
My name is Pedro Alves, I live in Torres Vedras (Portugal) and work in Lisbon as an architectural illustrator. Drawing and sketching always were a constant passion and the mean I used during my childhood to express ideas or to sketch my beloved comics at the time. During college, in 2001 I started drawing on the street for research purposes and a healthy addiction was born. I belong to the Torres Vedras sketching group and one of the coordinators of USk Portugal - West. I always worked in Lisbon e so I keep filling sketchbooks with the busy city life, intertwined with relaxed sketches of family reunions in Torres Vedras during the weekends. Sketching is my life and my work and this daily sketching process on my sketchbook has no specific ending in sight, it's only to practice and evolve in a constant search for new ways to live and communicate...
I am Agnese Aljena, sketcher, illustrator and photographer, based in Riga, Latvia. During my PhD studies I researched a theme of value management in fine art, and for several years my personal interest outside the scope of thesis was creativity and psychological processes behind it. Drawing was a kind of personal experiment for me, brought to urban sketching and now I am waiting for my first illustrated book to be printed. Drawing has become a significant part of my life and I feel like I have found a way back to my roots.
Masha Zurikova
Hi, my name is Masha Zurikova. I'm a freelance illustrator, painter and sketcher currently based in Riga, Latvia. I am convinced that beauty is everywhere. The most important thing is to be able to find inspiration in any ordinary event and to follow your heart. I am painting with oil and watercolors to show my vision of the natural beauty. I make illustrations and fast sketches of everyday life. Urban sketching is very important part of my self-exploration and self-expression journey, that always reminds me to stay mindful and seize the moment.
Liene Ligere
I work everyday with two of my favourite materials - leather and paper. That leads me to what is important for me in life - things that make you slow down, make you stop and live that very moment, just the way you are. Paper and leather are so real for me, so tangible, so full of dreams, goals and expectations - all in our hands to become real. They are my foundation of big things.
